11th April, 2010

Greetings from a chilly London, wish somebody would adjust that weather thermostat.

I write this amidst all the excitement of democracy that is unfolding at Westminster.

Gordon has gone, David has been caught off guard, Nick hasn't got the deal passed by his party yet - interesting times.

I'm suffering, as many are, with what I pass off as a head cold...with fluey overtones. I think it is on the way out but they are troublesome things to shake off entirely.

Sports-wise Middlesex have won their first county match - whoopee! West Ham have stayed up, hooray! Now we begin the search for a man mad enough to take over as manager at Upton Park. Some of the names linked with the post fill me with dread...Martin Jol is one of the suggestions I like.

My club cricket team lost their first league game, narrowly, but the prospects for the season are encouraging.

Tomorrow I get to see Sir Trevor Brooking again, really looking forward to that - and on the horizon, not too far away is Wimbledon and the European Swimming Championships.

Will keep you updated, more often than has recently been the case.

Take care,

Best wishes

Bob B
